Scientist Ronald L. Klaus Pursues a Spiritual Life
Ronald L. Klaus, a native of Brooklyn, New York, graduated from New York City’s renowned Stuyvesant High School and then earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. Commissioned in the U.S. Army through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, he spent the bulk of his service at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. After completing his military service, Ronald Klaus returned to RPI to pursue his doctorate, which he completed in 1967.
After acquiring his Ph.D., Ronald Klaus returned to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he conducted research into many different elements of rocket design, fuel, and performance. He taught chemical engineering and computer science at the University of Pennsylvania from 1970 until 1976, following which he devoted the bulk of his professional endeavors to consulting on computer applications, first in the chemical process industry and then for engineering. In 2003, Ron Klaus joined VAST Power Systems as its director of applications development, developing gas turbines for power generation, a post he held until 2008.
Parallel to his engineering career, Ronald Klaus has vigorously pursued a spiritual career. He worked with a Christian ministry that taught English to people in Japan, and co-founded North Philadelphia’s Esperanza Health Center, a large Christian facility serving a primarily Latino community. Klaus spent several years as the full-time pastor for congregations in Philadelphia and Marlton, New Jersey, following which he taught spiritual formation and small groups in seminaries in Philadelphia, the Philippines, and Ethiopia.
Since 2003, Ronald Klaus has served as the Ethiopia director of Hope in View, Inc., coaching Ethiopian spiritual leaders on a broad range of topics, including theology, financial sustainability, and holistic ministry, as well as instructing in the practical application of classroom learning. In addition to his Ethiopian ministry, Klaus has served in several other overseas locations, including Hong Kong, Peru, Nigeria, Kenya, and Mongolia.
Married with two grown children, Ron Klaus enjoys such outdoor activities as hiking, fishing, and camping. He stays fit by walking extensively and enjoys playing the piano.
